Opening scene analysis: Night And The City (1950).

1. The first scene opens, with a low-key night-time,
 long shot of Westminster, London.
This gives the view, first impressions of the films setting.
These opening shots of the city, also have non diegetic narration.

 2. A man (the protagonist), can be seen running away.
possibly because he is in trouble. also it is at this point,
that the fast pace, non diegetic music by Franz Waxman begins.

3. A man perusing the protagonist, soon follows.
Running towards the camera as it tracks backwards.

4. Our protagonist, Harry Fabian (played by Richard Widmark)
runs down a back alley.

5. Harry then drops his carnation, stops and pick's
it up. To avoid being caught by the pursuer.

6. After running down another alley, Harry
eventually looses his pursuer. He then enters the house
of his girl, Mary (played by Gene Tierney).
